For many Illinois residents, the convenience of owning their own car allows them to travel between destinations with an added measure of flexibility and freedom. However, the careless actions of others can put the lives of even the safest drivers at risk.

This was the case for several people when a recent car accident resulted in the death of one woman and left seven other people with injuries. While a thorough investigation is still underway, reports have shown that a female driver may have been speeding when she tried to change lanes. As a result, she allegedly lost control of her vehicle and crossed into the Northbound lanes, striking three vehicles. The accident occurred on Lake Shore Drive.

The vehicles involved in the accident were badly mangled and debris was strewn across the highway. Video footage captured the moments immediately following the accident when bystanders worked frantically to rescue one victim who appeared to be trapped inside a vehicle. The woman who initially crossed the median was pronounced dead after arriving at Illinois Masonic Medical Center. In all, seven other people were taken to area hospitals to be treated for injuries in varying degrees of severity. The accident required significant time to investigate and clean-up which resulted in lane closures through the following morning.

For people who have been involved in a serious car accident or have loved ones who have been injured because of another person’s actions, involving an attorney may be beneficial. They can provide insight into the complications of motor vehicle accidents and allow victims and their families to focus more time and energy on healing.
